John O'Connell Robotics Team was started in 2003. We the only High school Robotics team in San Francisco. We compete in the FIRST event, which gives schools six weeks to build a robot, practice, program, and develop strategies to win. The goals and the arena change every year, so teams must build a new bot each time. The First competition has allowed students to experience a positive and competitive atmosphere. This competition awards team spirit, hard work and gracious professionalism.
Our students and volunteers have put hundreds of hours into the Robotics team this year -- our diligence was rewarded with first place in the Portland Oregon competition. We went to the Nationals in Atlanta Georgia, where 295 teams were competing in the FIRST robotics competition. The competition was held at the Georgia Dome. There were four divisions: Archimedes, Curie, Newton, and Galileo. There were 5 fields set up, 4 of them were set up for the divisional matches. We were in the Galileo division, we won 3 matches and lost 4 matches.
