Working in partnership with FIRST, the College of Engineering at the University of
Missouri-Columbia will annually award up to four merit-based scholarships of $500,
renewable for a total of four years, to students enrolling full-time in any discipline of
engineering.

Eligibility Rules

  • -Scholarships will be awarded to students who have participated on a FIRST
  • Robotics Competition (FRC) or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team for at least
  • one full season in high school.
  • -Applicant must be accepted for admission to the University of Missouri-Columbia
  • and complete an online Student Financial Aid application.

  • -Applicant must have outstanding academic credentials with minimum Composite
  • and Math ACT scores of 28 or greater and high school class rank in the upper 15
  • percentile of high school graduating class. In meeting these requirements, the
  • applicant will also receive the College of Engineering Merit ($1,000) or
  • Achievement ($2,000) Scholarship.

  • -For consideration, the applicant must submit a short essay (500 words or less)
  • regarding his/her FIRST involvement and email it to the attention of the College of
  • Engineering Scholarship Coordinator at adamsmj@missouri.edu. Entitle your email
  • “FIRST Essay.” Include your team name and number at the top of your essay, which
  • is due March 1st. A letter of recommendation from a FIRST team mentor must also
  • be submitted via email. Applicant will be notified via email no later than April 1st if
  • the award will be made.
  • -Renewal of award will be automatic each year contingent upon maintaining a 3.4
  • GPA, calculated at the end of each academic year, and meeting standard College
  • of Engineering scholarship requirements.
